Why the two festivals made one long holiday in 2023
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, which fell on September 29 in 2023. China’s National Day, October 1, marks the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Because the two dates came in the same week, the public holiday ran as one continuous break from September 29 to October 6, 2023 — the long autumn break often called the National Day Golden Week.
