LED Display Modules for Video Walls and Signage

An LED display module is the replaceable pixel board used to build a direct-view LED screen. Several modules fit into a cabinet or panel; multiple cabinets form the complete video wall. This page compares the EagerLED module range so you can choose a product family before requesting a model specification.

Start with indoor or outdoor use, then consider a rigid or flexible board and SMD, GOB or COB construction. For a detailed explanation of pixel pitch, cabinet fit and service access, read our LED display module selection guide.

LED Display Module Board Components

A typical LED display module board combines red, green and blue LEDs, driver ICs, a printed circuit board (PCB), connectors and a supporting frame. Resistors and capacitors support the circuit, while power and data cables connect the module to the display system.

The PCB carries the electrical connections; it is not a complete display by itself. LED selection, driver settings and calibration affect brightness, grayscale and color consistency. When sourcing an LED PCB for a display module or a replacement assembly, specify whether you need a bare board, an assembled module or a complete cabinet.

Compare Indoor, Outdoor, Flexible, GOB and COB Modules

1. Indoor LED Display Modules

Indoor modules suit meeting rooms, retail signage and other controlled environments. A smaller pixel pitch puts more pixels into the same screen area, helping show fine text and detail to nearby viewers. Choose the pitch together with the viewing distance, screen dimensions and content resolution.

The indoor range on this page lists brightness of 600–1,000 nits. Confirm the selected model’s brightness, refresh rate and grayscale performance at the intended operating level. For camera-facing screens, assess the module and controller together under your camera settings.

Indoor protection ratings vary by model and do not establish suitability for rain exposure. Check ventilation, power requirements and front or rear maintenance access before planning the installation.

2. Outdoor LED Display Modules

Outdoor LED display modules serve advertising screens and signage exposed to brighter ambient light. Compare daytime visibility, weather protection and operating temperature before choosing the pitch. Larger pitches can suit distant viewers, but outdoor screens may also need fine detail at shorter distances.

The outdoor range lists brightness of 5,000–10,000 nits, depending on the model. Verify the required brightness for the site and plan dimming for evening use. Request the module’s front and rear IP ratings and the protection specification for the complete cabinet.

Weather resistance also depends on sealed connectors, cabinet construction and installation. Size the power system using the specified maximum load and assess typical consumption separately. Pixel pitch alone does not determine energy use; LED efficiency, brightness, content and drive settings also matter.

3. Flexible LED Display Modules

Flexible LED modules use bendable boards for curved, cylindrical and other creative indoor displays. Choose a compatible module size and pitch, then confirm the minimum bend radius and support structure. A soft board cannot be bent into every shape or angle.

Available dimensions and mounting methods depend on the series. Magnetic mounting can support service access when paired with the correct frame. Check cable routing, alignment and removal clearance across the curve, and follow the approved handling method to protect the LEDs and circuit board.

For rental installations, describe how often the screen will be assembled and transported. Confirm that the module, frame and any protective coating are suitable for repeated handling.

4. GOB LED Display Modules

GOB means Glue on Board. A transparent resin covers the assembled LED surface to help resist dust, moisture and accidental contact. This protection can be useful for accessible screens and installations where exposed LED packages could be knocked during handling.

The coating does not make every module suitable for outdoor use. Check the specified protection rating, operating limits and repair procedure for the chosen model. Compare surface reflections, color consistency and sample images at the intended brightness before ordering.

Explore our GOB LED display modules for available series and model specifications.

5. COB LED Display Modules

COB means Chip on Board. LED chips are mounted directly on the substrate and encapsulated, rather than using individually packaged SMD LEDs. This construction supports fine-pitch displays with a continuous protected surface for close-viewing applications.

For a COB LED display module, compare pixel pitch, usable brightness, grayscale, surface appearance and calibration. Assess power consumption under comparable brightness and content conditions rather than assuming every COB model uses less energy.

Confirm cabinet compatibility, service access and the repair or replacement process. Compare the full project cost, including control equipment and spares, with the equivalent SMD or GOB solution. See our COB LED module range.

Specify the Right Module Before You Order

Send the following information so the proposal matches your screen and installation:

  • Display requirements: screen width and height, nearest viewing distance, content type and indoor or outdoor use.
  • Module specification: pixel pitch, module dimensions, pixel resolution, brightness and refresh rate.
  • Compatibility: mounting holes, power requirements, connector pinout, scan mode, driver IC and receiving-card configuration.
  • Service plan: front or rear access, compatible spare modules and color matching for replacements.

For replacement LED modules, include clear front and rear photos, the module label and the existing configuration file. Matching size and pixel pitch alone does not guarantee that a replacement will work.

LED Display Module FAQ

01. What is an LED display module?

An LED display module is a pixel board containing LEDs, driver electronics and connectors. Multiple modules are assembled into cabinets or panels to form a larger LED video wall. A working screen also needs compatible power supplies, control equipment and a supporting structure.

02. What is the difference between an LED module and an LED panel?

A module is usually the replaceable pixel board. A panel often means the cabinet assembly that holds several modules, although suppliers may use the terms differently. When ordering, confirm the physical dimensions and whether the price includes a module, a cabinet or a complete display.

03. How do I choose the pixel pitch and module size?

Choose pixel pitch for the viewing distance, content detail and required screen resolution. Then match module dimensions to the cabinet layout. For example, a 320 × 160 mm P2.5 module has 128 × 64 pixels: divide each dimension by the 2.5 mm pitch. This is a calculation example, not a guarantee of a particular model’s availability.

04. Can indoor LED display modules be used outdoors?

Only use modules and cabinets specified for the actual outdoor conditions. Indoor modules may lack the required brightness, sealing and environmental protection. Check front and rear IP ratings, operating temperature, connectors and the complete installation design.

05. What is the difference between SMD, GOB and COB modules?

SMD uses individually packaged LEDs mounted on the board. GOB adds a protective resin layer over an assembled LED surface, often an SMD module. COB mounts LED chips directly on the substrate and encapsulates them. Compare actual image quality, protection, power requirements and maintenance rather than choosing by the technology name alone.

06. What determines the LED display module price?

Price depends on pixel pitch, board dimensions, LED and driver components, brightness, protection, quantity and included accessories. Send your screen size or module quantity, application and destination for an itemized quotation. Confirm freight, spare modules, warranty terms and control equipment separately.

07. Are replacement LED display modules interchangeable?

Not automatically. Match the module dimensions, resolution, mounting points, voltage, connectors, scan mode, driver IC and receiving-card settings. Different batches can also vary in color and brightness. Send the original label, front and rear photos and configuration details for a compatibility check.

08. What should international buyers include in an inquiry?

Include the destination country and city, indoor or outdoor use, screen dimensions, viewing distance, module quantity and project schedule. Request the exact model specification, applicable compliance documents, shipping terms and spare-parts plan. EagerLED is based in Shenzhen, China; confirm delivery arrangements for your market with the sales team.
